g.tec Annual BCI Research Award 2012

The Award was created to recognize outstanding and innovative research in the field of Brain-Computer Interfaces. Donate by g.tec, the Award is open to any brain-computer interface research worldwide and an international jury of top BCI researchers nominates 10 projects before the winner is announced. In 2012 the Annual BCI Research Award is scheduled for the SfN annual meeting, NEUROSCIENCE 2012 . The prize will be awarded by the Center for Innovation in Neuroscience and Technology (Whashington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, USA. Chairman of the jury will be Dr. Eric C. Leuthard, MD. The deadline for submission is June 15, 2012.

BackHome FP7 project launched!New

BackHome FP7 project launched!

[January 2012] BackHome FP7 project is launched with a kick-off meeting held at the premises of Barcelona Digital Technology Centre, the project coordinator. The goal of BackHome is to move BNCIs from laboratory devices for healthy users toward practical devices used at home by people in need. This implies a system which is easy to set up, portable, and straightforward. Thus, BackHome will (1) develop BNCI systems into practical multimodal assistive technologies that will provide useful solutions for communication, web-surfing, and environmental control, and (2) provide this technology for home usage with minimal support.

New year message from the Vicepresident of the European Commission: 3 things I witnessed in 2011, and why they give me hope for the future

Mrs Neelie Kroes, Vice-president of the European Commission for Digital Agenda, posted a End of Year message inher blog expressing lot of hope for the future. Among the three things "she learned" past year, Mrs Kroes stressed the progresses made in the application of new technologies helping people with severe motor disabilities to interact, communicate and lead independent lives. BrainAble video is used as visual support of her message.

Publication of the Future BNCI Roadmap
5th BCI conference Graz

Future BNCI roadmap already available!

[January 2012] Coordinated by Dr. Brendan Allison, this roadmap was developed by the Future BNCI Project and researchers from other BNCI Research Cluster projects (as for instance BrainAble project) co-financed by DG Information society and media (Directorate "ICT Addressing Societal Challenges", Unit "ICT for Inclusion") under the Seventh Framework Programme [FP7/2007-2013] of the European Union. The publication addresses the next five years of Brain/Neuronal Computer Interaction Research. This roadmap reflects two years of development, with contributions from stakeholders around the world.  Future BNCI was a Coordination and Support Action under the ICT Theme of FP7. Although the project just ended, any feedback is appreciated. Please see the Discussion Forum on the project website.
